We are meant to live happy, productive, fulfilled lives!

And part of making this happen is to take responsibility for what we hold in our consciousness.

What’s the connection?

Our consciousness is what creates our life.  What we think, feel, believe, and desire, both conscious and unconscious, determines what shows up in the phenomenal world.

I think this is the most exciting part of life because identifying as a spiritual being or a being of consciousness is where our true power lies.  It doesn’t lie in trying to change the external/phenomenal world to fill up your emptiness or to get what you think you need.

When we create first in consciousness, then our world literally changes.

You may not believe me!  That’s okay, because I don’t want you to believe me.  I want you to experiment and find your own truth about this.

Here’s a simple tool for making yourself AWARE of the consciousness you now hold about any given area of your life that you want to see changes in.  Generally, we either want something to go away (bad habits, power struggles, debt) or we want something to show up ( a lover, a new job, new clients, greater vitality).

How to create a consciousness map:

Example:  You want to create more inner peace in your life but you tend to stay busy all the time and avoid slowing down.

Before I continue I need to reiterate two Universal truths that are the foundation for what I’m teaching here.

  1. As within, so without.  This means that the outer world reflects the inner world.  That we must change our consciousness before our life will truly transform.
  2. We are Beings of consciousness or Spirit.  This means that our body and mind are denser forms of our Spirit, that our primary identity is consciousness, or Spirit.

(If you don’t subscribe to these laws, then spending time doing a consciousness map won’t be as effective for you.)

Back to our example of creating a consciousness map about inner peace.

Step 1:  Create 30 minutes for your exploration.  This will be less once you get the hang of it.

Step 2:  Write the word Inner Peace in the middle of a large blank sheet of paper and make a circle around it.

Step 3: Map all the thoughts, feelings, memories, longings, and beliefs that you associate with this word or state of being.

Step 4:  Look at your map.  This is your present state of consciousness about this topic.  Do not judge yourself.  Just observe and be curious.

Step 5:  Pick one belief on your map that blocks you from experiencing Inner Peace?

Step 6:  Say to yourself:  “I created this belief!  I can create other beliefs that support my experience of Inner Peace.”

Here’s a modest diagram of the above consciousness map.

The feelings and ideas listed here are as follows:

-long for my spirit

-don’t know how

-airy fairy—work more important

-girlie

-animals — nature

-too vulnerable

-not useful in real world

-mom’s judgment

In the above example, it fairly logical that if a person holds a belief that Inner Peace is ‘too vulnerable’ that that belief would block the experience or the motivation to create inner peace on a regular basis.

What happens once you make your Consciousness Map?

  1.  You experience a huge shift regarding the topic and find yourself actually freed up to a great degree simply by writing everything down.
  2.  You do not experience a huge shift and realize there is a deeper level of unconscious thoughts and feelings to explore

Neither of these is right or wrong!  Both are necessary.  Both will happen.  The more you practice being the proud owner of your own consciousness whatever you see on your map you will welcome with open arms.

Remember, a consciousness map is different than a mind map because a consciousness map includes everything: your feelings, memories, desires, beliefs and all that you project onto the focus of your paper during that 30 minutes of focus.

The intention is not to organize ideas as in a traditional ‘mind’ map.  This is broader and deeper in that you are attempting to write down everything that is within you regarding this desire you have.  You are intending to ‘make conscious’ all aspects of your consciousness that surround the desire you are trying to manifest, or the habit you are trying to break.

I strongly encourage you to try this!  Create a consciousness map.

When you choose to be conscious creators of your life, you take your consciousness seriously!  You examine the Consciousness Map that is your present state and choose to let go of what doesn’t serve your desires and to create what does.
