Wonder is our natural state.
I’ve been taking midday walks this summer and posting pictures on my Facebook page. The pictures are of wildflowers and beautiful views of nature. The reason I take these walks is of course for the movement of my body, but mostly I take them to cultivate my own sense of wonder. Wildflowers have always opened my heart to the wonder of nature. I am in awe as I stand before them in their perfection. To me, they are much more beautiful than cultivated flowers. Their energy is closer to the Divine nature of life. At least that is how it feels to me. Thus, standing in their presence and becoming still with them opens me to my own raw nature, to my own Presence of Spirit flowing through me, just as it flows through the flowers.
This is one way I cultivate wonder. I’ll share another way to cultivate wonder at the end of this article.
Because wonder opens the heart, it also opens you to your wisdom, which in turn feeds your creative ideas professionally and personally.
My clients have this one thing in common: They long to express and give from the deepest parts of themselves to their clients, colleagues and family That deepest part is what I call the ‘Preciousness of your Being’. It’s the very thing that cultivating wonder reminds you IS inside you. You are as precious as the wildflower; you are as precious as the butterfly..
The preciousness inside you is your wisdom. It is the place where Spirit flows through your heart and stimulates your nervous system to register YOUR inspired ideas, your new thoughts, and your intuitive hunches that you then are guided to act upon.
When you are coaching a client or creating a new program, when you are sharing with your spouse or teaching your child, your wisdom longs to be fully expressed.
This is why you are here. To express your Essence.
How Does the Preciousness of Your Being Disappear?
Eckhart Tolle calls it being ‘lost in form’. You are so busy doing that you disconnect from your Being. It happens to all of us. This is the moment stress begins. Every kind of stress begins when we become lost in the form.
What does that mean exactly? It means that we become totally identified with the form. The form may take the shape of a deadline or the form may take the shape of a thought, worry, or belief of some kind. The form can also be a feeling in the body that you become totally identified with.
Most often getting lost in form is simply a matter of ‘doing’ all day long without the conscious awareness of your inner experience. Most of the human race lives this way, even those of you who love what you do and are motivated to do more.
Balancing the Doing with your Being
“I need more space!” a highly successful client who loves her work said to me. The feelings of stress and inner disconnection, the sense of being lost in the ‘doing’ of her life were taking a toll.
When you take time to deliberately cultivate wonder, you will begin to infuse Being into your doing. Wonder reminds you of what really matters, which is the good, the true and the beautiful. When you take time (and it does take time!) to cultivate wonder, the stress you generally experience because of getting habitually lost in form will disappear.
You can bring wonder into everything you do, even at the highest level of your work life. And when you do, you will begin to feel a new creativity and a new freedom to express yourself from a deeper level of authenticity. You will feel more grounded in your deepest self.
It’s a win-win because this is what the world needs more of.
Another way to cultivate wonder:
I’m sure many of you have a favorite piece of art in your home. Do you take time to BE with it? Art is a form through which spirit flows, just like you are a form through which spirit flows. This is why art can open you to your own Spirit. It helps you resonate with your higher frequency. But in order to do that, you must take time to be with it. So I ask you, when did you last take time to stare at your favorite painting, or listen to your favorite piece of music and really give yourself to it?
Take time to do this and see what happens. Be with your favorite art. Why do you love it so much? How does it feel to you? Open your heart and feel the wonder and awe that is always there inside you. Then take this with you throughout your day.
Let your wonder inform your choices.
