Many times, we hear, ‘It’s just your story’ as if your story is irrelevant and you should get over it.
Other times, we are told, ‘You must own your story or it will own you.’
There are two ways of telling your story. One is to tell it compulsively and urgently, keep returning to it because you see your present suffering as the result of your past experiences. But there is another way. You can tell your story from the place where it no longer dominates you. You can speak about it with a certain distance and see it as the way to your present freedom.
— Henri Nouwen
When you don’t know how to pivot from disempowering to empowering within your own story, then you cannot be free to manifest your desires and purpose.
"I am a woman with thoughts and questions and sh*t to say. I say if I’m beautiful. I say if I’m strong. You will not determine my story --- I will."
~ Amy Schumer
"Owning our stories can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from them."
~ Brene Brown
"There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you."
~ Maya Angelou
I’ve been exploring, studying and teaching about how we create our stories for a few decades. In fact, my awareness at an early age, when I was in my twenties, that I was living within a limiting story is what motivated me to become the teacher and spiritual mentor that I am today. I always knew that there was a deeper Self within me who was much more that the limiting story I had taken on. My memoir, The Life That Woke Me Up Was My Own traces the journey of how our limiting story can evolve into an awakening.
I love teaching about story in all of its mystery. When you are able to master where you are coming from in the present moment, within the context of your story, you are free to create in an unlimited way.
What is your story, in all of its versions?
How to take 100% responsibility as the creator of your story so that you are free to create a new one
How to detect where your story limits you in your present life so that you can pivot towards your desires.
Why believing in the importance of your unique story is the foundation of your accomplishment.
